Fuel thief caught following media coverage
OPP are receiving plenty of leads after releasing a photo of a gas thief who was bullish enough to cover his vehicle's license plates to conceal his identity.

CORNWALL, Ontario – OPP have arrested a South Stormont man for ripping off a Monkland gas station.

The man, who hid his face and license plates from security cameras, was arrested by police following widepread circulation of security camera footage.

Corey Pettinella, 40, of South Stormont faces two counts of theft under $5,000.

On April 18 at approximately 4:30 p.m., SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a theft of gas incident at a service station on Highway 138, North Stormont Township (Monkland Esso).

An investigation indicated that a patron had fueled his vehicle and left the area without paying. Further details revealed the same person/vehicle had committed the same act on April 9. In both occurrences, the vehicle was observed heading east on County Road 43.

On April 20 the suspect vehicle/driver was intercepted in North Stormont Township.

A man was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on July 5.
