Minor injuries in school bus crash

CORNWALL, Ont. – Two students were transported to hospital as a precaution for minor injuries after a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus on Friday afternoon in Cornwall.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Queen Street and Westmooreland Avenue in the city’s Riverdale area, near Viscount Alexander Public School.

The silver car involved in the crash was located a few blocks over on Second Street West, near Westmooreland Ave. The vehicle sustained significant damage to the passenger side.

Cornwall Community Police Service said the collision was minor in nature, and two children who were on the bus at the time of the accident suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

CCPS Acting Sgt. Rob McIntosh told Seaway News that no arrests have been made and foul play is not suspected, but the crash is still under investigation.

Despite the vehicle being parked further from the accident scene, McIntosh said the incident was not a hit-and-run.

“The driver did not flee the scene,” said McIntosh.

He said the male driver of the vehicle may be facing a Highway Traffic Act charge.

The driver was also taken to hospital as a safety precaution for minor injuries, while his passenger did not require medical attention, according to McIntosh.
