CORNWALL, Ontario – Lowes opened its 43rd store in Canada Thursday with a board cutting at its new Brookdale Avenue locale in Cornwall.
Dozens of dignitaries from local government and agencies attended the opening, which continues all weekend with customer incentives and an interactive autograph signing session with HGTV’s Bryan Baeumler (Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
“We’re thrilled to be here in Cornwall,” said Lowes vice-president of supply chain management Gregor Stuart.
Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy welcomed the home improvement giant with a tongue-in-cheek suggestion he may be looking for a new line of work.
“I’ll be submitting my resume by noon today,” he said to laughter, and then added for the benefit of Stuart: “We have space available for a new distribution centre here in Cornwall.”
As part of the festivities Thursday at $10,000 cheque from the company was provided to the local Habitat for Humanity office, to help offset the cost of building homes for those in need.
The cheque was accepted by Leigh Taggart, Habitat for Humanity executive director.
Customers are being invited to free home improvement sessions, giveaways and contests throughout the four-day event.
Free $25 gift cards will be provided to the first 200 customers on May 8. Customers can also enter to win 1 of 5 Grand Prizes.
The store represents an approximate local investment in excess of $16 million and has created approximately 120-140 jobs, and additional 30-40 seasonal positions.
