Heavy rain and thunderstorms did not deter Cornwall’s beer connoisseurs from enjoying the second annual Summer Beer Fest at NAV Can on Saturday, July 9.
This year, the Seaway Food Festival, which organizes the event, sold 1, 600 tickets in advance and more people arrived despite the rain to buy tickets at the door.
Eight restaurants were on site to keep people fed including Love Love Food Cafe, Bistro & Bakery.
A selection of over 60 different brews were on-hand for sampling including Cornwall’s local brewery Rurban.
“Right now things are great because the weather has cleared up,” said Rurban Brewing founder and owner AJ Rorabeck when asked how the day was going. “People are enjoying themselves and that’s what matters,” he continued.
Rurban had brought four special casks of beer for the occasion including a special Pale Ale and a special double IPA that contained fruit juices and rinds and was delicious.
Also keeping dry under a tent at the event was a table for Crafting a Cure, Cornwall’s annual beer tasting fundraiser in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Held on the first Friday of every November, Crafting a Cure has raised $45, 000 in three years so far.
This year, the event will be held at the Agora Catholic Centre in Cornwall.
The event was started by Jeff and Cherie Lalonde who were at Beer Fest on Saturday, slinging suds and raising awareness for a cure for juvenile diabetes.
