CORNWALL, Ontario – Further to previous updates on the Brookdale Avenue reconstruction project, the Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd. and its contractor, L.W. Bray Construction Ltd., have notified the City of Cornwall that the reopening of Second Street at Brookdale Avenue will be delayed.

It’s anticipated the intersection reopening will now be on Friday, Oct. 14. Additional schedule updates will be provided as soon as they become available.

“We appreciate the public’s ongoing patience and cooperation while this work is carried out,” said John St. Marseille, General Manager, Infrastructure & Municipal Works. “This $7-million project involves replacement of critical infrastructure such as watermains and sewers on a major arterial road. The location of utilities and old infrastructure, in some cases dating back to Cornwall’s industrial development, has slowed progress somewhat. This infrastructure must be well constructed and done in a safe manner, however it will take more time than originally forecast.”

During the closure of the intersection, traffic is being detoured via Cumberland Street, Seventh Street and Hoople Avenue.

The City of Cornwall thanks all motorists and residents for their continued patience and cooperation while this work is carried out.

The reconstruction of Brookdale Avenue from Water Street to Seventh Street is a joint project being led by the Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd. It involves the replacement of underground services and realignment and replacement of the road, curbing and sidewalk. The work is being carried out by Louis W. Bray Construction Ltd. The work marks the final phase of the multi-year bridge demolition project.
