Cornwall, Ontario – Handcrafted creations were on display throughout Thanksgiving weekend at the Country Harvest Pottery & Art Show held at Marlin Orchards and Garden Centre.

In its 30th year, the event showcased the work of 28 potters and artisans, as well as live demonstrations which allowed visitors to watch the throwing process in action.

“It’s important to show people this so they can understand it better,” said potter Marko Savard. “The live demonstrations show exactly what it takes to make just one bowl—there’s really a lot of stages.”

The three day show was also a fundraiser, featuring a silent auction table made up entirely of art donated by each potter.

The proceeds raised by the event will go to the MS Society of Canada Cornwall & District Chapter, this year’s chosen charity.

“We are thrilled that [Marlin Orchards] thinks of us and lets us benefit from the results of the silent auction,” said Karine Torrie-Racine, who was attending the show on behalf of the MS Society.

Despite a rainy Saturday, the show was a great success and event organizer, Ann Marlin was impressed.

“This year’s turnout was excellent, it was a bit noisy in [the greenhouse] when we had those heavy showers but it worked out very well and the weather for the rest of the weekend was just right,” she said.

Local potters will be part of another fundraising initiative taking place next month. The Agapé Centre’s Empty Bowls campaign takes place Sunday, November 6 and will allow diners to enjoy gourmet soup out of one-of-a-kind bowls, which they get to take home afterwards.
