The following is a compilation of Cornwall police briefs, where typical cop jargon is replaced with a more interesting point of view. All of the accused are innocent until proven guilty.
Booze breath lands charges
Drinking responsibly is sometimes less about what, and more about where. Police allege, on Sept. 30, they attended an Easton Street address in relation to an unwanted person. Once on scene they detected an odour of alcohol from the man who was not at his residence. Chad Young, 38, of Cornwall, was arrested for having breached his conditional sentence order for having consumed alcohol, being away from his residence and failing to keep the peace. The man was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.
M.I.C.: Missing in court
An Akwesasne woman faces a charge for being M.I.A. for her court date. Police allege, on Aug. 13, the woman failed to attend her appointment and police were contacted. On Sept. 25, police attended the Cornwall Court House as the woman was in custody on an unrelated matter and charged her accordingly. She was charged with breaching a recognizance for having failed to attend a court ordered appointment. The woman remained in custody for a bail hearing.
A Cornwall man was arrested for dodging court and police ink on his fingerprints. Police allege, on Sept. 23, that Pierre Godbout, 51, did not attend court on Sept. 12. A warrant was issued for his arrest and an investigation also revealed that on Aug. 29, the man failed to attend police headquarters for prints. On Sept. 24, he was located at his residence, taken into custody and charged with breaching an undertaking for failing to attend for prints and failing to keep the peace. The man was held for a bail hearing.
A 42-year-old Cornwall man faces charges for allegedly roughing up his girlfriend. Police allege, on Sept. 24, while investigating a domestic dispute at a First Street address, they learned that on Sept. 20 the man was involved in an argument, with his 36-year-old girlfriend, when he pushed her. The man was transported to police HQ and later released with a future court date. He was subsequently arrested and charged with assault. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.
