The following is a compilation of Cornwall police briefs, where typical cop jargon is replaced with a more interesting point of view. All of the accused are innocent until proven guilty.
Scary call: Man threatens own family
A deadly threat uttered in a phone conversation landed a man with several charges. On Oct. 16, police allege a Cornwall man, 35, called his ex-wife, 30, and threatened to stab and kill her and their child. On Oct. 17, cops arrested him in the Cornwall Court house, while he was already in custody on unrelated matters. He was charged with three counts of threats to life. The man was held for a bail hearing. To protect the victims, his name was not released.
Domestic violence: Man assaults, threatens girlfriend
A violent confrontation between a local couple has resulted in some serious charges. On Oct. 16, police allege a Cornwall man, 52, went berserk and punched his girlfriend, 35, in the head, choked her and threatened to kill her. The incident occurred at his place. On Oct. 17, as police investigated the matter, they found out that the man was now outside the woman’s residence. He was arrested and charged with assault and threats. His name was not released, as it might identify the victim in the matter.
Swingin’ crowbar: Ex-boyfriend confronts old flame/new guy
Everyone deals with breakups differently. Some move on with a broken heart, others get a criminal record. On Oct. 17, police allege a Cornwall man, 26, got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend, 24, and her new boyfriend, 29. As the battle of words took place, the ex-boyfriend swung a crowbar in the air, motioning towards the couple. Police were called and during their investigation, he was located at his residence. The alleged ‘crowbar-wielding ex-lover’ was held for a bail hearing. To protect the couple, his name was not released.
Texting charges: Threats over cell phone leads to arrest
A threat is a threat, no matter if it’s spoken or sent through your phone. On Oct. 18, police allege a Cornwall man, 43, texted his ex-girlfriend, 45, on several occasions despite being told not to. One text in particular landed him in cuffs. He threatened to go to her house and beat her. Police were called and the man was charged with threats and criminal harassment. He was held for a bail hearing. No names were released, to protect the victim.
