Police Briefs: March 17, 2014

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Amanda Stevens, 29 of Cornwall was arrested on March 14th, 2014 on the strength of a probation warrant. It is alleged that the woman breached her conditions on her conditional sentence order and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On March 14th, 2014 a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service attend the Cornwall courthouse to execute the warrant as the woman was in custody on unrelated charges. The warrant was executed and the woman remained in custody to await a bail hearing.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Jason Gougeon, 34 of Cornwall was arrested on March 14th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that the man was breaching his probation conditions and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 14th, 2014 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody and released with a court date of April 17th, 2014.

Cornwall, ON – Stephanie Portieouse, 29 of Cornwall was arrested on March 14th, 2014 on the strength of a probation office warrant. It is alleged that the woman breached her conditional sentence order and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On March 14th, 2014 the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody and released to appear in court on April 17th, 2014.

Cornwall, ON – Nelson Beauvais, 27 of Cornwall was arrested on March 14th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that during a traffic stop on February 18th, 2014 the man was found to be out past curfew and being in the company with someone known to have a criminal record. Investigation revealed that the man was bound by conditions and was in breach on the night in question, however the man’s whereabouts were now unknown and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 14th, 2014 police assumed custody of the man who was held by port officials on the strength of the warrant. The man was later released to appear in court on May 1st, 2014 to answer to the charges.

ASSAULT, ASSAULT POLICE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Cory Sabourin, 35 of Cornwall was arrested on March 14th, 2014 and charged with assault, assault police and breach of undertaking for failing to notify a change of address and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on March 14th, 2014 police were called to a Second Street address in relations to a disturbance call. Once on scene police located the man who became upset and threw a chair at police. The man then struck an officer in the chest with his hand. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle and charged accordingly. The man was transported to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – Gary Ingram, 58 of Long Sault was arrested on March 15th, 2014 and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and over 80. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of March 15th, 2014 the man was involved in a minor traffic accident in the area of Pitt Street and Fifteenth Street. When police arrived to investigate the matter it was found that the man was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on April 8th, 2014.

ASSAULT POLICE

Cornwall, ON – Matthew Levac, 24 of Cornwall was arrested on March 15th, 2014 and charged with assault police with a weapon. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of March 15th, 2014 police attended a Fourth Street East address in relation to an unwanted person call. Once on scene police had an intoxicated man leave the residence and while the man was exiting he closed the door striking a police officer. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on April 17th, 2014.

ASSAULT, FORCIBLE CONFINEMENT

Cornwall, ON – A 42-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 15th, 2014 and charged with assault and forcible confinement. It is alleged that on March 15th, 2014 during an argument the man spat on his 38-year-old common law wife and prevented her from leaving the residence. Police were called and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the man was taken into custody, and charged accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 20-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on March 16th, 2014 and charged with assault. It is alleged that on March 16th, 2014 during an argument with her 23-year-old boyfriend the intoxicated woman punched him several times in the head causing minor injuries. Police were called and an investigation ensued. During their investigation police took the woman into custody, charged her accordingly and later released her with a court date of April 17th, 2014. Her name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

Cornwall, ON – A 34-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 16th, 2014 and charged with assault. It is alleged that on March 15th, 2014 during an argument with his 27-year-old girlfriend the intoxicated man pushed his girlfriend from behind and pushed her head into a door window. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On March 16th, 2014 the man who had left the area prior to police arrival attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Cory Jocko, 27 of Akwesasne was arrested on March 12th, 2014 and charged with breaching a recognizance for failing to sign in at Cornwall police headquarters. It is alleged that on March 7th, 2014 the man failed to sign in and an investigation ensued. On March 12th, 2014 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on April 17th, 2014.

Cornwall, ON – A 25-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on March 12th, 2014 and charged with breaching an undertaking for being in the company with someone she has conditions not to and for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on March 12th, 2014 the woman was taken into custody at the port of entry as she was found to be breaching her conditions by being in the company of someone for which she has conditions not to associate with. She was turned over to a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service who assumed custody of the woman and charged her accordingly. She was transported to police headquarters and later released to appear in court on April 1st, 2014. Her name was not released as it might identify the victim in the original matter.

WARRANT

Cornwall ON – An 18-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 12th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that the man breached his youth probation conditions and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 12th, 2014 the man was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant at the port of entry. He was turned over to a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service and transported to police headquarters where he was released with a future court date. His name was not released as it stems from an incident when the man was a youth.

ASSAULT, THREATS, BREACH, UNLAWFULLY IN A DWELLING, RESIST ARREST

Cornwall, ON – A 45-year-old man from Akwesasne was arrested on March 12th, 2014 and charged with assault, threats, unlawfully in a dwelling, resist arrest and five counts of breach of probation for having consumed alcohol and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on March12th, 2014 the intoxicated man entered his 36-year-old ex-girlfriend’s residence on Guy Street without her permission and an argument ensued. During the argument the man threatened to kill her grabbed his ex-wife by the neck and pushed her to the floor. He then slapped her across the face. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation the man was taken into custody after a brief struggle and charged accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on March 12th, 2014 and charged with assault. It is alleged that the woman was involved in an argument with her 21-year-old boyfriend when she struck him in the eye. Police were called and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the woman was taken into custody and charged accordingly. The woman was transported to police headquarters and later released with a future court date. Her name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Andrew Ross, 24 of Cornwall was arrested on March 11th, 2014 for having breached his conditional sentence order. It is alleged that on March 11th, 2014 police attended the area of Sydney Street and Eleventh Street for a disturbance call. While investigating the call they located the man and found that he was in breach of his conditional sentence order by being out of his residence. He was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.

DRUG WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Vincent Brunette, 25 and Sarah Sefcsik, 26 both of Cornwall were arrested on March 11th, 2014 and charged as follows:

Vincent Brunette

  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
  •  Possession of property obtained by crime
  •  Breach of a JP recognizance X2 for not residing at a specified address and for being in possession of drugs

Sarah Sefcsik

  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of Marijuana
  •  Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
  •  Breach of an undertaking X2 for having consumed drugs and failing to keep the peace.

It is alleged that on March 11th, 2014 members of the Cornwall Street Crime Unit executed a warrant at a Guy Street address and located the following

  • 3.9 grams of marijuana; Street value of $39.00
  • 9.3 grams of cocaine; Street value of $760.00
  • A quantity of Canadian currency

Both were taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

THEFT UNDER, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Sherry Atwell, 37 of Cornwall was arrested on March 11th, 2014 and charged with theft under $5000, breach of probation for attending a specific store and failing to keep the peace. She was also charged with breaching an undertaking for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on March 11th, 2014 the woman attended a Ninth Street store and selected items which she concealed and made no attempts to pay for as she exited the store. She was stopped by the Loss Prevention Officer and police were contacted. The woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

ASSAULT, THREATS

Cornwall, ON – A 21-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 11th, 2014 and charged with threats to property, threats to life and assault. It is alleged that on March 8th, 2014 during an argument with his 20-year-old wife the man threatened to burn their car and threatened to harm anyone who would touch his property. The man also pushed his wife while entering a doorway. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation the man was taken into custody and charged accordingly. He was later released to appear in court on April 15th, 2014. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Kellen Sunday, 29 of Cornwall was arrested on March 11th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that the man failed to attend court on February 25th, 2014 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 11th, 2014 the man was stopped at the port of entry and taken into custody on the strength of the warrant. Police attended and assumed custody of the man who was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Adeel Asif, 21 of Montreal was arrested on March 10th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that on March 26th, 2013 the man failed to attend court as directed in order to answer to a dangerous drive charge. A warrant was issued for the arrest of the man as his whereabouts were unknown. On March 10th, 2014 the Cornwall Community Police attended Montreal and assumed custody of the man as Montreal had the man in custody on the strength of the warrant. He was transported to Cornwall and held for a bail hearing.

Cornwall, ON – A 30-year-old South Mountain man was arrested on March 10th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that during the month of February and March, 2014 the man continually contacted his ex-girlfriend who resides in Cornwall by way of phone calls despite having been warmed by police not to. A warrant was issued for his arrest as his whereabouts were unknown. On March 10th, 2014 the Cornwall Community Police assumed custody of the man from the Winchester area OPP as they had the man in custody on the strength of the warrant. He was transported to Cornwall and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Shawnna Chartrand, 21 of Cornwall was arrested on March 7th, 2014 and charged with failing to appear for prints. It is alleged that on February 25th, 2014 the woman failed to attend for prints as required and an investigation ensued. On March 7th, 2014 the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on a later date.

Cornwall, ON – Brandon Tessier, 27 of Cornwall was arrested on March 7th, 2014 and charged with breaching his recognizance for having failed to sign in as directed and failing to notify a change of address. It is alleged that on February 28th, 2014 the man failed to sign in as directed and an investigation ensued. During their investigation it was also learned that the man moved without notifying police. On March 7th, 2014 while at police headquarters for another matter the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on April 17th, 2014.

THREATS

Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 8th, 2014 and charged with three counts of threats. It is alleged that on March 7th, 2014 the man threatened to damage and burn his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend’s car as well as injuring a 22-year-old common friend of theirs and burning his car. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. In the early morning hours of March 8th, 2014 the man was spotted by police and during as traffic stop was taken into custody and charged accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victims in the matter.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – Benjamine Owens, 28 of Ingleside was arrested on March 8th, 2014 and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and over 80. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of March 8th, 2014 the man found to be operating a motor vehicle in the area of Second Street and Pitt Street while under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop and charged accordingly. He was later released to appear in court on March 20th, 2014.

CARE AND CONTROL

Cornwall, ON – Stacey Peterson, 25 of Cornwall was arrested on March 8th, 2014 and charged with care and control of a motor vehicle while being under the influence of alcohol. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of March 8th, 2014 police found the woman to be in care and control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol at a Second Street restaurant drive through window. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on March 20th, 2014.

MISCHIEF, ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 41-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 8th, 2014 and charged with two counts of mischief and one count of assault. It is alleged that on January 24th, 2014 while at a local bar the man grabbed his 32-year-old girlfriend by the arm and swung her around. On March 8th, 2014 during an argument at their apartment the man punched a hole in the wall and damaged a cordless phone. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on April 15th, 2014. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

Cornwall, ON – John Laffin, 51 of Cornwall was arrested on March 9th, 2014 and charged with mischief, assault and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on March 9th, 2014 the man assaulted a 27-year-old man by punching him several times and during the assault broke the man’s glasses. As a result of the assault police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation on March 9th, 2014 police located the man at his residence, took him into custody and charged him accordingly. He was later released to appear in court on April 8th, 2014.

CRIMINAL HARASSMENT

Cornwall, On – A 37-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on March 9th, 2014 and charged with criminal harassment. It is alleged that on March 9th, 2014 the woman sent several text messages to her 50-year-old ex-boyfriend despite having been previously warned by police not to. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On March 9th, 2014 the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on April 17th, 2014. Her name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANTS

Cornwall, ON – Roger Bastien, 43 of Cornwall was arrested on March 9th, 2014 on the strength of three warrants. It is alleged that the man was wanted on the strength of the three warrants for having failed to attend court, failing to appear for prints and for breaching

undertaking and probation orders. On March 9th, 2014 the man was located by police at a Montreal Road address. He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

Breach

Cornwall, On – Leighann Neff, 32 of Akwesasne was arrested on March 6th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that on March 13th, 2012 the woman breached her recognizance for having failed to report as directed. As a result an investigation ensued and a warrant was issued for her arrest as her whereabouts were unknown. On March 6th, 2014 police attended the Cornwall Courthouse as the woman was in custody on an unrelated matter. The warrant was executed and the woman remained in custody to await a bail hearing.

POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Cornwall, ON – Jennifer Diabo, 42 of Kanawake, Quebec was arrested on March 7th, 2014 and charged with possession of a controlled substance. It is alleged that on March 7th, 2014 the woman was stopped by boarder officials at the port of entry and they found her to be in possession of approximately 9 grams of marihuana. Police were contacted and assumed custody of the woman. She was charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on April 8th, 2014.
