Probation officer’s family threatened: police

CORNWALL, Ontario – A Cornwall man has been charged for threatening his probation officer’s children and a 36-year-old local resident is behind bars for allegedly breaking into five vehicles at a Sydney Street parking lot in today’s Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) blotter update.

Vehicle break-ins

A 36-year-old Cornwall man is facing a slew of serious charges.

Peter Laxton has been charged with five counts of mischief under $5000, two counts of theft under $5000, fraud under $5000, attempt fraud and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace.

Police allege between the evening hours of April 1 and early morning hours of April 2 the man broke into five vehicles by smashing in their windows at a Sydney Street parking lot.

During their investigation, police learned that the man also used a credit card taken from one of the vehicles and attempted to use it on a second occasion.

On April 3, the man was spotted by city cops walking near Second and Sydney streets. He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

Probation officer threatened

A 21-year Cornwall man was arrested for having breached his conditional sentence order and also charged with threats.

Police allege Shane Sarault threatened to harm a probation officer’s children during a meeting on April 3.

The man was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

Missing prints leads to arrest

A 47-year-old Cornwall man was arrested and charged with failing to appear for prints.

Police allege Jeffrey Goulet failed to attend police headquarters for a scheduled appointment to have his finger prints taken on March 31.

On April 3, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody and later released to appear in court on April 22.

Public intoxication

A 38-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on the strength of a warrant and for being intoxicated in a public place.

Police allege Marc Hebert failed to attend court on January 21st, 2010 for an impaired driving charge.

On April 3, the intoxicated man was spotted by police walking through the Cornwall Square parking lot.

He was taken into custody for being intoxicated in a public place and on the strength of a warrant. The man was then transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.

Failing to keep the peace

A 26-year-old Cornwall man was arrested and charged with breaching an undertaking for having consumed alcohol and failing to keep the peace.

Police allege Adam Albers was intoxicated in his room as they visited a Marlborough Street address in relation to a disturbance call on April 3.

The man was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.

Threats lead to arrest

A 28-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested and charged with threats to life.

Police allege that during the month of March she threatened to shoot her ex-boyfriend and his girlfriend.

Police located the woman at her residence on April 2 and took her into custody.

She was later released to appear in court on May 6. Her name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

Fraud charges

An 18-year-old Maxville woman was arrested and charged with two counts of fraud under $5000 and unauthorized use of a credit card.

Police allege that during the month of January Samantha McCormick deposited empty envelopes into an ATM and withdrew money from the account without the permission of the account holder.

On April 2, the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody and later released to appear in court on May 15.
