CORNWALL, Ontario - After evading Cornwall police for weeks, a city woman accused of shoplifting and assaulting a loss prevention officer was arrested on Thursday.

Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) blotter update.

'On the razor's edge of crime and survival'

Police reported that the woman took razors from the store on July 12. As she made a mad dash out of the Brookdale Avenue store, a security officer attempting to restrain her was pushed.

A member of the Cornwall Community Police Service spotted her walking near Lawrence and First streets on July 31.

Shawna Mitchell, 35, was charged with theft under $5,000, assault, and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace.

'Arrested for assault'

A city man is facing a serious charge for a disgusting crime.

Police reported the 31-year-old Cornwall resident punched his girlfriend, 39, in the face during a heated argument on July 31.

The police were called and the man was arrested.

He was held for a bail hearing.

'Breaking curfew'

A city teen was locked up for ditching his legal responsibilities early this morning.

Police were informed on August 1 that the 17-year-old Cornwall youth did not return home prior to curfew.

He was located near his residence, arrested, and held for a bail hearing.
