CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall police have charged a 45-year-old man for threatening to cripple a by-law officer on his Facebook page, on August 8.
City resident Timothy Masson was arrested after attending police headquarters on Monday, August 18.
He was charged with threats and held for a bail hearing.
Cornwall police Constable Dan Cloutier said social media users who vent their frustrations online in a threatening manner have to be aware of the repercussions.
“Anything you say online that is perceived as a direct or indirect threat will be dealt with as an actual threat,” said Cloutier. “If someone feels they’re being threatened charges may be forthcoming at that point.”
Police fire back at ‘slap happy’ truck thief
A 22-year-old woman was located in a stolen pickup truck near St-Felix and Easton streets early on Monday, August 19.
She was transported to police HQ and held for a bail hearing. But the wild ride wasn’t over yet. Police said during the intake process the woman slapped a cop in the face.
Katlen Moore was charged with theft of motor vehicle, assault police and breach of undertaking for failing to keep the peace.
Suspected drug dealer arrested
On August 18, members of the Cornwall Street Crime unit executed a warrant at a Brookdale Avenue address and seized a quantity of drugs and cash.
Cornwall police charged Robert Lazore, 38, for trafficking and being in possession of well-known prescription opioid pain medications hydromorphone and oxycodone.
Lazore is also facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime (currency) and breach of recognizance for failing to keep the peace and for having prohibited edged weapons (knives).
He was held for a bail hearing.
String of threats reported at hospital
This August, a disturbing trend targeting local health-care workers continues to grow.
On August 16, Akwesasne resident Tate Jocko, 24, visited the Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) and threatened to kill staff members, according to police.
This is the fourth incident of its kind in a matter of weeks.
He was charged with threats to life and breach of undertaking for failing to keep the peace.
Jocko was held for a bail hearing.
