There is a high volume of traffic and a significant risk of accidents at the corner of McConnell Avenue and South Branch Road in Cornwall. A traffic review was recently conducted and the analysis concluded that signalization is 98 per cent justified at the intersection.
Based on the most recent review and the likelihood of justification reaching 100 per cent by 2012, City Council has voted to have traffic signals installed in the near future. The estimated cost is at $120,000, which will be included in the 5-year capital project.
Last June, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash at that intersection.
Traffic lights were installed just down the road at the corner of Pitt Street North and Cornwall Centre Road. Norm Levac, General Manager of Infrastructure & Municipal Works, said the traffic lights have been very effective.
