City politicians expense account

Dear Editor

Dear Editor,

Regarding the usage of the mayor's and councilors' expense accounts going to charities; I have few concerns. First, we all appreciate that our city fathers are generous with attitudes towards charitable organizations. The crux of the matter is that they are using our tax dollars in a semi-hidden way by sucking them out of what is called their expense account. The question I have is this an income to the individual that becomes tax claimable? There are a lot of ramifications to this 'personal' charity that each elected official has at their own behest. Something about accountability smells with this one. I thought expense accounts were for city incurred expenses only. You can fool us once, you can fool us twice but there comes a day of reckoning. I feel used and abused on this one, how about you? Give your own money when giving to personal charities, not the taxpayers. Taxpayers’ donations should have full exposure as in a voted decision on each donation in a corporate way, not slid through via the expense account route.
