Dear Editor,

On Monday, December 14, 2009, in Lamoureux Park, thousands of Cornwallites helped welcome the Olympic Flame to the city.  The special celebration saw young and old truly getting into the Olympic Spirit with smiles on every face.  Everyone present shared an incredibly emotional moment when Rik Saaltink lit the cauldron in the memory of his late 22 year old daughter, Heather, who was killed in a car crash in December last year. The local celebration featured many local acts displaying the various talent and multicultural offerings this city possesses.  Cornwall has added to that incredible Olympic Spirit and it will be present when the flame arrives in Vancouver to light the official cauldron on February 12th.

The local organizing committee did an amazing job pulling the event together as well as promoting it, while the residents of this great city also deserve full credit for creating an electric atmosphere in Lamoureux Park.  Cornwall has shown once again what a truly great community it is.  Congratulations to all!

Gilles Latour,

Chair, Team Cornwall
