Throughout human history there have been many people who have claimed that God personally spoke directly to them. For many of them, such an occasion was a life-changing experience. Of course, there is always a skeptical and cynical response from others to such a claim about hearing God’s audible voice. Whatever our opinion of this particular claim, I would submit to you today that all of us, without exception, have heard “echoes of God’s voice.” The echoes that we detect point beyond ourselves and we sense that these particular echoes are very important. In fact, they are essential! We come to realize that we cannot escape these insistent echoes of God’s voice calling to us as human beings. Whether we open up the Book and read from the Holy Bible or not, or whether we lay claim to hearing from God’s audible voice or not, I am sure that we have all heard the “echoes of God’s voice.” God’s divine voice can be heard in our longing for justice, in our quest for spirituality, in our hunger for relationships, and in our delight in beauty. I would urge us to be open to God’s voice speaking to us concerning our great need of Him, His gracious provision in His Son Jesus Christ, and concerning our great purpose and potential with Him!
