PETERS, Joan - Mrs. Joan Peters (née Sims ) Passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Hospice Cornwall on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the wonderful age of 89 years. Beloved wife of Dr. Rudolph Peters. Cherished mother of Janet Johns (Bradley). Loving grandmother of Matthew Johns. Dear sister-in-law of Ray Peters (Sheila). Predeceased by her treasured daughter Susan Hayes (John) and much loved brother Lt. Col. (Ret'd) Basil Sims. Joan was a person dedicated to the service of her family and community. As a young nurse in Britain, she treated and cared for the casualties of Juno Beach. Her calling continued when she came to Canada and in Cornwall spent many years as a nursing supervisor at the Macdonell Memorial Hospital. She helped to initiate the Meals on Wheels program in Cornwall and served as a volunteer into her eighties. She loved classical music and assisted with the Cornwall Concert Series. She will be missed by her many friends and her family to whom she dedicated her life. The family is deeply appreciative of the care she received at the Hospice Cornwall and the Cornwall Community Hospital. In keeping with Joan's wishes, Cremation has taken place. Resting at the WILSON FUNERAL HOME, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall where visitation will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 1pm until the time of Service. A Funeral Service in celebration of Joan's life will be held in the Chapel of the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 2pm. LALONDE, Bernadette - Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell site on Monday, February 11, 2013. Bernadette Lillian Lalonde age 80 years. Beloved wife of the late Robert Lalonde. Dear mother of Robert Lalonde (Shelagh) of Niagara Falls, Beverly Poapst (Gerald Burns), Betty Haineault (Ron MacLean), Diane Ezard (Robert) all of Cornwall and Barbara Freeman of Oakville. Cherished grandmother of nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Survived by one sister Jean Ladouceur. Predeceased by her parents, the late Donald Lalonde and the late Josephine (Bergeron) Lalonde, her brothers and sisters Allan, Albert, Arnold, Lloyd, Vivian, Irene, Florence, Mae, Marguerite and Theresa.
