The Cornwall Atom Black Typhoons won gold by defeating the Cornwall Red Typhoons 3-1 at the 22nd annual Cubtown Tournament that was held in Smiths Falls this past weekend.

The girls advanced to the finals after finishing the round robin with 2 wins and 1 tie. Cornwall met the Kemptville Storm in the semi-final game. It was a thrilling game as the Black Typhoons won by a score of 2-1. In the final, the Black Typhoons faced their hometown division rival, the Red Typhoons.

Cornwall Black got 2 goals from Madison Ruffo and 1 from Ashley MacCrimmon while Alyssa Trudell had the lone marker for Red. Samantha Graveley made key and timely saves to earn the finals hustler award.

All weekend long, Samantha Graveley was solid in nets for the Black Typhoons. Offensively, the team was led by Madison Ruffo, Ashley MacCrimmon and Brianna Leroux while Laura Barnes, Emma Mason and Nyla Virtue provided strong offensive play in the attacking zone. The team’s strong defensive play came from the trio of Tianna Speck-Meek, Madison Bellmore and Autumn Benedict.

This was the team’s first trip to the finals this year.
