The Cornwall Colts and their goaltender Lukas Hafner have set the tone for the Central Canada Hockey League championship series.
The Colts got perfect netminding from their goalie and shutout the Nepean Raiders 2-0 to knot the series at one game apiece. Hafner had 29 saves, including 13 in the final period.
The Colts came into the game, Thursday night at the Ed Lumley Arena in Cornwall, needing a win. The team did not want to go back to Nepean down 2-0, with the prospect of having to win one on the road to avoid a 3-0 hole.
The game was extremely tight-checking, and there were no goals scored until Trent Durocher scored 5:17 into the third period. Kyle Baun added an empty-netter with 11 seconds left to seal the win.
Both teams will take a couple of days off before the series resumes Sunday afternoon (2:30 p.m.) in Nepean.
