When one looks into the eyes of Tiana Saucier, it doesn’t take long to see the benefits of helping out a charity like the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cornwall and District.
The 10-year-old Grade 5 student at Immaculate Conception School in Cornwall has been paired with Ann Bourdon for four years and she says the fun they have together is immeasurable.
“We like to go golfing, or bowling,” said Tiana. “And we like to paint too.”
Big Brothers and Big Sisters is hosting its 17th annual golf tournament July 18 at Summerheights in Cornwall.
The tournament is one of the chief fundraisers for the charity, last year bringing in $19,500, along with 114 golfers.
“That money is so important,” said Bourdon, who sits on the golf tournament committee and is chair of the local Big Brothers/Sisters board. “We took the kids to Calypso (water park) and it was $1,800 just to get us all on the that trip.
“If there’s a golf tournament someone wants to enter this summer, this is it.”
The best-balll tourney begins at 11 a.m. and Bourdon stressed there are a multitude of prizes available.
There’s also three more spots available for teams, and singles can join the tourney as well. For more information contact the local Big Brothers/Sisters office at 613-933-8035.
