The Cornwall River Kings looked to be in control in their first-ever home game at the Ed Lumley Arena - but eventually needed overtime to down Trois Rivieres before more than 4,100 raucous fans.

Hometown boy Eric Meloche scored just 1:23 into the game to send the civic complex into delirium to start the night.

Goals in the second period from Alex Bourret and another by Meloche had the River Kings looking good with a 3-0 lead, but that's when the wheels started to fall off.

A goal with just one second left in the period got Trois Rivieres on the board, and then a pair of markers in the last five minutes of the game - the tying goal came with just 19 seconds left - saw things stretch into overtime.

Fortunately the game-winner off the stick of Pierre-Luc Faubert sent a nearly sellout crowd home happy.

Cornwall now sits tied atop the Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey standings with Saguenay at 2-0. Both teams will play each other next Saturday in Cornwall. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
