Cornwall welterweight Tony Luis lost his first fight Friday night, and it couldn't have come at a worse time.
Making his television debut on ESPN, Luis lost to rugged ring veteran Jose "Loco" Hernandez at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, N.Y.
Luis' corner threw in the towel in the eighth round, giving Hernandez the TKO.
Up to that point, the fight was pretty even.
Luis had trained to fight Miguel Gonzalez who withdrew, citing an illness and opened the door for Hernandez.
With a 13-6-1 record, Hernandez has battled six unbeaten foes.
Luis' record falls to 15-1.
