CORNWALL, Ontario - The seventh edition of the popular high school hockey spectacle that is the Bishop Cup is quickly becoming a one-sided affair.
The St. Joseph's Panther dispatched their cross-town rivals, the Holy Trinity Falcons, 7-4 before about 2,500 spectators at the Cornwall Civic Complex.
The Panthers now own a 5-2 record.
Thom Racine, the organizer of the event, was pleased with the response from high school hockey fans and hopes to see more of the same in the future.
"Now parents and grandparents are filling the building along with the high school students," he said. "It's more than we could have ever hoped for."
The Panthers were up 3-0 by the time the game was five minutres old on a pair of markers by Grant Hebert and a single from Brian Landry.
Other St. Joes goals came from Tanner Markell, Scott Hope, Brock Daze and Cole Beckstead.
For the Flacons it was Jarrod Porporo, Pat Flanagan, Donald Beaulieu and David Poirier.
Hebert was named St. Joseph's most valuable player for the game, while Falcon's goalie Jacob Kreische got the nod for Holy Trinity. He came in in relief with the game already 5-1.
