CORNWALL, Ontario – City council put its stamp of approval on the ownership change of the Cornwall River Kings by changing the wording of an ice-rental agreement with the semi-pro team to reflect the new people helming hockey club.
Councillors voted unanimously Monday night to approve the wording change, which now spells out the new ownershiup group that includes David Small, Gokan Karakus, Kevin Champagne and Cory Linthorne.
Recreation manager Christine Lefebvre indicated to council that representatives from both the River Kings and the Cornwall Colts, a Jr. A team that shares the Cornwall Civic Complex ice, are communicating concerning advertising rights within the arena.
“The city’s position has been is that we are not party to those discussions…and that remains true to this day,” she said.
The River Kings were recently sold by former owner Bernie Villeneuve to the new group following a very public campaign to drum up support for the team.
