Hundreds of stuffed animals were launched to the ice by fans after the Cornwall River Kings scored their first goal in support of Sparky’s Toy Drive Teddy Bear toss on Dec. 21.
During their first goal, by Ryan Jardine (21) and assisted by Dominic Chiasson (20), over 200 stuffed animals were launched onto the ice in support of Sparky's Toy Drive Teddy Bear Toss.
It was a fleeting moment of glory for the Kings before they snapped a four-game winning streak on home ice. Riviere-du-Loup was ultimately outshot by 43-31, but they were on point during the second and game-defining period. Six goals were scored leaving the Kings in over their heads with 981 in attendance at the civic centre.
In the final stretch, River Kings players Pierre-Luc Faubert (72) and Ryan Jardine (21) both scored, but with an extra goal put in by their competitor as well it was match over.
The game's three stars were Marc-Andre Tourigny (18), Chad Denny (3) and Ryan Jardine (21).
The River Kings will meet Riviere-du-Loup again this Friday at 8 p.m. at Centre Premier Tech.
Sparky and his entourage of Cornwall Professional Fire Fighter’s Association members will be distributing the teddy bears to local children for Christmas.
