CORNWALL, Ontario - The St. Lawrence Sharks women’s hockey team is looking to end their silver medal streak with a first-place finish at the upcoming Ontario Colleges Committee of Campus Recreation (OCCCR) Challenge Cup.
The St. Lawrence Sharks women’s hockey team.
Last week the Sharks took part in the Seneca College Hockey Invitational where they managed to make it to their fourth-consecutive final before losing 3-1 to Humber College. The second place finish makes four straight second place finishes at Invitationals for St. Lawrence.
Sharks forward Roberta Mamakwa was named the St. Lawrence athlete of the week for her performance at the tournament. Mamakwa put up two goals and had great chemistry with her teammates.
St. Lawrence finished their regular season with a record of 12-5, more than enough to get them to the Challenge Cup tournament which takes place March 27 and 28.
The Sharks finished third in the power rankings due to their continued success through the season.
Last year St. Lawrence Cornwall hosted the first OCCCR women’s hockey Challenge Cup, where they made it to the finals before losing to Fanshawe College.
The Challenge Cup will begin on March 27 in Orillia, Ontario. Game match-ups and times have yet to be announced.
