CORNWALL, Ontario - Following an outstanding performance at the Challenge Cup by the St. Lawrence College Cornwall men’s hockey team, defenseman Dylan Casselman has been named the St. Lawrence athlete of the week.

Through four games during the playoff tournament, Casselman was able to score two goals in the shootout, helping the Sharks reach the quarter-finals where they ended up being eliminated.

“I feel like our team competed extremely well at the Challenge Cup,” said Casselman. “We put ourselves in a great position heading into the quarter-finals and with a little more puck luck I believe we would have went further.”

Casselman was also a force on defense throughout the tournament, constantly shutting down some of the top players on the opposition. Despite not making it to the final of the tournament, he is still happy with his team’s performance.

“Sometimes no matter how hard you work, the game just doesn't reward you for it,” said Casselman. “I was proud of the boys though, they all worked hard every shift and that's all a teammate can ask for.”

Through his 12 games played through the season, Casselman put up one goal and three points on top of the two shootout goals from the Challenge Cup.

“The highlight of my season personally would be my two game-ending shootout goals,” he said. “On a team note it was definitely just the time spent with the guys. It's nice to be with a group of guys that are essentially best friends when we're all together. It was a lot of fun.”

The early childhood education student is set to graduate at the end of the school year. He is unsure if he will be returning to another program to continue playing with the Sharks at the moment.

“No matter if I am back or not, next year we just have to go in with the same mentality as we did this year,” said Casselman. “Take the season one game at a time and not look too far ahead.

“Live in the moment and work hard. Hard work has to pay off at some point."
