New River King forward Cory Pecker.

CORNWALL, Ontario – The River Kings made a move to boost their offense by signing free-agent forward, and former NHL draft pick, Cory Pecker.

The 34-year-old forward from Montreal will suit up for Cornwall this weekend.

Pecker was a 6th round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 1999 and went on to play more than 300 games in the AHL.

“He’s scored quite a few goals in his career,” said General manager Rick Lalonde. “He’s definitely going to help us out offensively.”

Pecker led the Erie Otters to an OHL Championship in 2002. After leading the Otters with 53 goals in 56 regular season games, the OHL MVP went on to post a league-high 42 points in 21 playoff games. At the Memorial Cup, he had seven points in four games and was named a tournament All-Star.

Pecker then spent five seasons in the AHL, where he scored 60 goals and 82 assists (142 points) in 311 games. The 6-foot, 198 lb. forward also chipped in 287 penalty minutes.

In addition, Pecker won a Spengler Cup for Team Canada alongside former River King Yves Sarault. And he’s also had pro stops overseas in Switzerland and England.

“He’ll bring a winning attitude into our dressing room,” said Lalonde. “He can play a huge role for us.”
