Colgate University's Tyson Spink has been selected to be on the fan ballot for the 2016 Hobey Baker Award

CORNWALL, Ontario – Williamstown native Tyson Spink is on the ballot for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the top player in American college hockey.

The former Cornwall Colt is in his senior year at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., and leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and 15 assists in 23 games.

And if the name sounds familar — it should.

Spink’s twin brother, Tylor, is second in scoring at Colgate, and their younger brother, Tanner, is the leading points producer for the Cornwall Colts.

Spink collected 262 points in 173 Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) games with the Colts over parts of four seasons from 2008-09 until 2011-12. 

Current Buffalo Sabres star rookie Jack Eichel won the 2015 Hobey Baker Award.

FAST FACTS

The first phase of fan balloting will run now through March 6. Phase two of fan balloting will begin on March 17 from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists.

Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship. 

Key Hobey Baker announcement dates for 2016 include:

– Top Ten list of candidates:  March 16

– Hobey Hat Trick of three finalists:  March 31

– Hobey Baker Award announcement:  April 8

The 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced from a field of three Hobey Hat Trick finalists on Friday, April 8, during the NCAA Frozen Four Championships in Tampa, FL.
