The U12G Blazers went up against the Kanata Lightning recently, for their final game of the season. The Blazers quickly put the pressure on. Melissa Gilligan sent a pass to Sarah Lefebvre who scored the first goal of the game for the Blazers. Arielle Gravelle followed with a hard kick that bounced over the Lightning keeper’s hands and into the net for goal number two. After halftime, Blazers goalkeeper Madison McLeod challenged her opponents and dove for the ball, but Kanata slid one by to score their first goal. The Blazers came back strong and Glenna Martel snuck a third goal by the Lightning’s keeper, assisted by Lefebvre. The girls continued to challenge their opponents. After a shot on net, Glenna Martel knocked the ball away from the keeper, and Gilligan tipped it in the net for the fourth and final goal. The Blazers’ final game of the season concluded with a 4–1 win. The Blazers were unstoppable in their first season in the Premier Division, maintaining their first place standing throughout the season. Melissa Gilligan was the top scorer for the division, while Sarah Lefebvre, Arielle Gravelle and Ashley McCormick were in the top 10 scorers as well. Emilie Lamarche and Madison McLeod earned the most shutouts for the season. The girls would like to thank Jeff Gibbs for the additional speed and agility training. Coach Campeau and Coach Lefebvre are most proud of their girls.
