This August, on a beautiful summer night following the 5th Annual Summerheights Golf Tournament, a helicopter swooshed onto the driving range and dropped golf balls from the air to determine which lucky ball would be the closest to the hole. Proceeds from the annual Golf Ball Drop, organized by the SD& G Cornwall Shrine Club, goes to support the Shriners many charitable initiatives including the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation’s Equipment Appeal. Foundation Executive Director Connie Vardy says, “We are thankful for the donation and we are all winners because so many faithful supporters purchase tickets.” Ball Drop Chairman, Ills. Sir Rory MacLennan, reports this year’s winning golf ball, number 785 dropped 24-3/4inches from the hole and matched ticket number 785 held by winner Mike Despatie.
