Two Cornwall teens took fourth-place honours at the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets’ provincial regatta recently.

Cadets corps Coxswain, CPO1 Timothy Woodbeck and QPO1 Devin MacDiarmid from Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC) Stormont were among of field of 20 crews during the two-day event. The regatta took place in Lake Ontario waters off the Royal Military College of Canada, site of HMCS Ontario Sea Cadet Summer Training Centre. The cadets will return to Kingston for the Sea Cadets National Regatta in August.

The Ontario Division regatta is the finale of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets’ local sailing training for the year. The Navy League of Canada – Ontario Division conducts the competition with Canadian Forces support through the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Central) at CFB Borden.

Seamanship and sail training have been mainstays of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet program for more than 100 years. Through the sailing program sea cadets learn the skills they need to harness the winds, tides and currents. The program pays big dividends in the cadets’ personal development, in terms of such life skills as teamwork, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
