The Vankleek Hill Nordic Ski Club, “Ski-vent-clic,” will be the host for District 8 Ontario Senior Games competition on Saturday, February 6. The event will also determine the district’s qualifiers for the Ontario Senior Winter Games of February 2011, in Huntsville, Ontario.
OSGA has recently expanded the Nordic event format and this will be incorporated into District 8’s competition in Vankleek Hill. There will be the traditional men’s and women’s 5 km prediction ski for seniors 55+. A new category is an open style, timed race of 5 km, in three age categories: 55+, 65+ and 75+, for men and women.
Because it is a qualifier for the 2011 Winter Games, the age categories will be as of the year 2011. For example, if you become 55 in the year 2011, you would be eligible for that category.
To be eligible for the competition, you must be a resident of District 8 which comprises the counties of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell and Akwesasne.
Registration will take place from 9:00-10:00 am, February 6, at St. Jude Elementary School, Hwy 34, Vankleek Hill. Fee is $10. Prediction competition starts at 10:00 am. Timed race competition starts at 11:00 am.
