The executive of the local Ontario Senior Games Association has dedicated the Summer Games which are currently taking place across SD&G, Akwesasne, and Prescott-Russell to the memory of Mary Hanniman.

Hanniman, of Long Sault, was killed in a car accident, April 26. She was one of the founders of the Ontario Senior Games Association-District 8 in the early 1980s. She had been on the board of directors of the organization for 25 years, fulfilling functions such as games coordinator in Morrisburg, and event convener for bridge, euchre and cribbage for many years. She was scheduled to be a convener for contract bridge competition later this month.

Hanniman participated in many events, and often won gold, silver and bronze medals. In 2008, she was part of a District 8 slo-pitch team which competed in the provincial senior summer games in London. “Mary was very generous with her time and will be sadly missed,” said Association President Bob Peladeau. “District 8 would like to dedicate our 2009 ‘Friendly Games’ to her memory.”
