Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) St. Lawrence College recently competed in Toronto from May 4 to 6 at the 2009 ACE National Exposition, where they made it to the semi-final round in their inaugural year, placing SIFE SLC among the top 20 teams in the country. This was just one of the many milestones SIFE St. Lawrence College accomplished this year.

After breaking records at the 2009 ACE Central Regional competition by taking home a first and a second place prize, the SIFE SLC team championed on to take home more awards on the national stage including the John Dobson Best Start-Up of the Year Award.

Pamela Bovey Armstrong, SIFE SLC’s faculty advisor, also brought home the award for Rookie Faculty Advisor of the Year and was also honoured with the John Dobson ACE Fellow of the Year Award for an outstanding contribution as a mentor and coach to a SIFE team. As well, the chairman of SIFE SLC, Darcy Voutt, brought home the Gwyn Morgan Bursary for Principle Leadership, an award of $2,500 toward tuition. “This is not only a group that has quickly solidified itself as one of the top SIFE teams in the country, but a sustainable organization that is becoming an incubator for the entrepreneurs at St. Lawrence College,” said John Conrad, associate dean, School of Business, St. Lawrence College.
