The U13 Boys Blazers participated in the Gloucester International Soccer Tournament recently weekend. Organizers asked for a team to move up a level and the Blazers obliged. Coach Kieran Kennedy thought it would be tough for the team but a great experience to play up with more experienced players. Kennedy did not anticipate that his team would go all the way and win Silver. They went through the round robin with 3 wins and no goals scored against keeper Kenzie Flaro. The first game against the Cumberland Cobras was a tough game but the Blazers managed to win it 1-0 on a beautiful goal by Keilian MacCulloch. Next up was the OSU Power, another tough opponent but again the Blazers prevailed winning 2 - 0 both goals scored by Coty Casselman. For their 3rd match the Blazers faced the Gloucester Hornets winning again 4-0, goals scored by Logan Kennedy, Coty Casselman, Niall Woodmass and Keilian MacCulloch. Then it was on to the final against the Cumberland Cobras again. It was another tough game and great soccer to watch. At the end of regular time the game was scoreless and remained scoreless throughout the 2 five minute overtimes. It went to a shootout where the Blazers who dominated most of the game came up short and settled for the Silver medal. Player of the tournament was well deserved by Ross Craig who did a superb job playing defence. Last minute call-up was 10 year old Bailey Lepage who was a little nervous but played rock solid on defence every game. An outstanding finish for the Blazers.
