Traffic plan for Canada Day
The Cornwall Community Police Service would like to advise the motoring public of the traffic plan for the upcoming Canada Day celebration and fireworks display on the 1st of July, 2008.
In order to ensure the safety of pedestrians and the proper flow of traffic at the termination of the fireworks, the following road closures will be in effect at 10:15 p.m. The eastbound lane of Water Street will be closed to traffic between York Street and Sydney Street while the Westbound lane of Water Street will be closed between Adolphus Street and Pitt Street.
These road closures are necessary in order to ensure the safety of the pedestrians attending and leaving the event. This will reduce the interaction between vehicles and pedestrians and therefore reduce the risk of injuries to those leaving the event.
Officers will be strategically positioned at several intersections to assists in redirecting traffic in order to improve the flow of traffic at the end of the event.
PARKING TO BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
In order to ensure that emergency vehicles have access to the park, officers will enforce the “No Parking” and the “Fire Truck Routes” at the Civic Complex. Officers will also ensure that the access to the rear of the Civic Complex is not blocked by illegally parked vehicles. Any vehicles found in contravention of the parking By-Law, will be ticketed and maybe towed at the owner’s expense.
The Cornwall Community Police service would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Canada Day celebration. We thank you for your cooperation and remind you to slow down when in the area. Please, be watchful for pedestrians at the event.
