Champs Eastside Boxing
Champs Eastside Boxing was in action in Akwesasne, New York on Saturday, May 30. Representing Champs Eastside was Logan “Arriwio” Swamp of Snye, New York and LoLo Rorohronhakies. In his first bout ever, LoLo, 12 years old, 103 lbs., squared off with Watertown's Matt MacErder, 11 years old, 107 lbs. LoLo applied the basics well and controlled his emotions as he worked his jab and combinations off the jab very well. It was a big deal for the young man who was performing in front of a partisan crowd. LoLo gave his opponent two standing eight-counts to top things off, winning a unanimous decision. Also representing Champs Eastside in his eighth bout was Logan “Arriwio” Swamp. Logan was faced with Tyler McCarthy of Albany, New York—Logan, 17 years old, 164 lbs., Tyler 22 years old, 176 lbs. Tyler had 12 bouts under his belt. In perhaps the best performance of his career, “Arriwio” dominated his older, heavier, more experienced opponent. Working behind a snapping jab and fast right hands, Logan kept his opponent at bay and hurt Tyler on several occasions with right hands, prompting the referee to administer three eight-counts over the last two rounds. “Arriwio” was awarded a unanimous three-round decision after three crowd-pleasing rounds. Chad Campeau of Massena, New York, also a member of Champs Eastside weighed in, but did not obtain a bout. Champs Eastside would like to thank organizer Bob Miller, of Altona, New York, for granting the young competitors the opportunity to participate in the show. Coach Jorge Luis of Champs Eastside Boxing Club would like to send a personal thank you and salute to Shannon Hall (mother of “Arriwio” Swamp) who raised US$345 for Champs in a 50/50 draw. The money will be put to good use.
