Champs Eastside Boxing Club
Champs Eastside Boxing saw double duty on Saturday, June 6. After Tony Luis successfully captured the Quebec Pro Lightweight title, coach Jorge Luis headed for Ottawa Carleton Racetrack. Representing Champs was Phil Hoftyya squaring off in a heavyweight match-up with Orville Bailey. Phil weighed 180.5 to Orville’s 193.5. Phil took the fight to Orville right from the first round, doubling on his job and throwing three- and four-punch combos. Orville tried to box and move more, but Phil’s pressure tactics forced him to fight. Phil consistently outscored and outthrew his larger, more experienced opponent to win a unanimous decision in what was perhaps the most crowd-pleasing bout of the night. Phil has won his last six bouts in a row this season and is a much-improved boxer well respected in the Eastern Ontario region. Champs Eastside is the only boxing program in Cornwall. We operate Monday to Thursday nights. We are a non-profit organization run by volunteers, located at 223 Jarvis St.
