It was a dark and stormy day…. No, really—it was! Cold, rain, and wind did little to deter the Rothwell-Osnabruck Lancers junior boys’ softball team from their march to victory. The tournament was held at Legion Field in Cornwall on May 20. After a close-fought one-run victory against the Long Sault team, the Lancers earned a berth in the “A” championship final. Another nail-biting contest ensued. Going into the final inning, the Lancers held a slim lead. The opposing team loaded the bases, and things were looking grim. But a dramatic, diving outfield catch and some snappy double plays by the infielders held the opponents scoreless. Lancers win! Rothwell-Osnabruck Lancers junior boys—softball champions, 2009.
