Peewee Celtics win Caledon tournament

Peewee Celtics win Caledon tournament
The Peewee Celtics travelled to Caledon recently for a lacrosse tournament and came home with the championship trophy. The Celtics began the tournament with a rocky start against Gloucester. Starting off the first period a few men short, the Celtics worked hard throughout a rough game to come out with a 4-3 victory. Good effort from Cortlon Skidders to get the winning goal in the dying seconds of the game. Other goal scorers were Scott Hope, Taylor Metcalfe and Lane Blanchard while Derek Lister, Austin Coleman, Lane Blanchard and Cortlon Skidders picked up assists. Next up for the Celtics was the team from Caledon and they proved to be no match for the Celtics who easily defeated them 6-1.

Starting the game off with a full line up, the Celtics scored three goals in the first period from Skidders, Blanchard and Hope to take an early lead. With Caledon unable to get the ball past Celtics goalie Isaac Lavallee, the Celtics put three more in the net from Metcalfe, Hope and Brendon Vipond. Picking up helpers were Akins, Hope, Skidders, Blanchard, Skyler Daze and Lavallee. The next round robin game saw the Celtics defeat Innisfil by a score of 6-3.

Goal scorers were Blanchard (2), Hope (2), Vipond, Skidders, Blanchard with assists going to Metcalfe, Hope, Vipond and Ben Michels.

In the semi final action, the Celtics would face another Gloucester team. The Celtics were ready for it and came out with four quick goals in the first period and never looked back, sending Gloucester home with an 8-2 score.

While the Celtics had no trouble finding the goalie’s weak spot, the Gloucester players could not get the ball past Celtic goaltender Isaac Lavallee who played a great game. Scoring for the Celtics were Hope (4), Skidders, Akins, Lister and Ben Michels. Picking up assists were Vipond (2), Akins and Lavallee.

In the final game, the Celtics would face the undefeated team from Brampton. The Celtics came out and shocked the Brampton team by scoring six goals in the first period alone. After that Brampton could not hold back the Celtics as they continued to dominate with four more goals to win the final game 10-5.

The Celtics recently took part in the Sonny Herrington Lacrosse Tournament in Cornwall and came away with their second tournament win this season. The Celtics defeated Huntsville in the final to take the winning trophy.
