Kid with Class
Gabrielle is a Grade 5 straight-A student. She is always working hard at achieving her goals pushing the limits of her knowledge. But what really stands out is her willingness to help others. From helping out the fellow students who are nervous and shy to helping the custodian with her day-to-day routine without rewards. At church, she also wanted to give back to the community by becoming a frequent reader during Mass. That’s Gabrielle, willing to help out without receiving back, taking the underdog’s side, protecting the environment, as well as writing in the newspaper, writing piano pieces and songs of her own, taking part in the school play.
What do her teachers admire in her? Knowing success but staying humble about it. Not showing off, being discreet. After hearing of a local boy who was battling cancer, she wanted to give her hair so children like him could have wigs and not feel bad.
But donating her hair was not enough because, while searching the net, she found out it cost around $1,200 to make each wig. Nonetheless, she decided to raise money to make that wig and donate her hair. She raised $1,403 before June 13, 2008, the day she marched to the hairdresser’s salon and got 10 inches of golden locks cut and bagged. Gabrielle is definitely a Kid with Class. One who gives her very best, always looks for the best in people, and enjoys every day like it’s the best day ever.
