DELTA, B.C. - One person has been killed in a crash late Monday night that police in Delta, B.C. blame on street racing.
A release from the Delta Police Department says officers spotted two vehicles allegedly street racing on Scott Road, one of the municipality's busiest streets, just before 11 p.m. on Monday night.
Police pulled over one of the cars but the second sped off, turned onto Nordel Way and slammed into a third vehicle just moments later.
The racing car careened through a guard rail, tumbled down a steep ravine and burst into flames.
One of the two people in the car was tossed out and is being treated in hospital for undetermined injuries but the second person was trapped in the flaming wreckage and died at the scene.
Investigators have shut down that section of Nordel Way and say the busy commuter link will remain closed for most of the Tuesday morning rush.
