CORNWALL, Ontario – The Girls Night out is an annual event in support of Maison Baldwin House. This year they have upgraded their venue as they expect a big turnout.
The Girls Night Out fundraiser started out as a house party ten years ago. For the past four they have moved into a hosting the event at venues. Last year Girls Night Out packed the Legion Hall, this year they have moved into the Agora Centre for what is planned to be the biggest Girls Night Out yet.
The event starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 and goes all evening.
Featured at the event are 10 special guest karaoke acts that will be performing throughout the afternoon and evening with the help of DJ Carol Grant Productions. There will also be some tribal dancers to come in to demonstrate belly dancing, a popular act from last year.
The even prides itself on being a fundraiser that is affordable for everyone to attend with tickets being $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Last year the event raised $4, 350 for Maison Baldwin House.
In addition to money raised from the ticket sales, there will also be a silent auction with some prizes donated by the 24 different vendors that will be at the event.
The event is for women only and some of the special guest speakers will talk about different kinds of abuse.
“Its not just about physical abuse,” said organizer Naomi Lamarche. “People think its just women walking around with bruises, but there is also mental, emotional and financial abuse.”
