CORNWALL, Ontario – On a warmer than usual Feb. 19, 18 brave souls jumped into the still icy and freezing waters of the pond at Island Park to raise money for the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame.
While it was a balmy plus seven degrees out of the water, those jumping into it assured the gathered crowd that it was still quite cold.
The fundraiser managed to collect nearly $10, 000 for the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame, and that money will used for renovations and general upkeep of the building.
Laurie Filion was one of the fundraisers who jumped into the water on Sunday afternoon and said it was very cold and that it was her first and last time doing it. To warm up, Laurie and her team were going to head over to the nearby Atlantic Pub.
South Glengarry Councillor Trevor Bougie was also happy to jump in.
“I’m here today to represent South Glengarry,” he said. “The Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame is also something that is near and dear to my heart.”
The top fundraisers were the team of Amanda Hope and Hailey Cholette and Jacques Lajoie and Laurie Filion were recognized for best costume.
