The White Knucklerz RC for Local Sick Children is set to take place Saturday

CORNWALL, Ontario – The White Knucklerz RC are getting their motors running for their third annual RC for Local Sick Children.

Having selected four worthy candidates to sponsor, ranging in ages from18 months to 10 years old, the club has made it their goal to serve up some smiles on Saturday, July 29. For children living with a chronic illness, daily life can sometimes be a challenge – which is what makes the event especially important to White Knucklerz President, Larry ‘Buck’ O’Byrne.

“We try to give these kids something to look forward to,” said O’Byrne. “This event helps us give back in a way they can really appreciate.”

The main idea behind the fundraising effort is to grant each child a ‘big wish’ – something to provide a small escape from their illness.

“We do our best to get them what they want,” said O’Byrne. “But mostly, we just want them to enjoy being kids.”

With the gravity of their prognosis often overshadowing many aspects of childhood, it’s easy to imagine how one act of kindness can positively impact sick kids and their families.

“These kids don’t ask for their illness,” said club treasurer, Laurie ‘Jade’ Robinson. “Whether they’re healthy or sick, children are the future – and we’re here for them.”

Event sign up will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, 29, with kick stands going up at 10:30 a.m. All four children are set to ride along, coming back to the clubhouse at 2 p.m. for a celebratory barbecue. There, club members will unveil the gifts.

“It makes us feel like we’re doing something right when we see the looks on their faces,” said O’Byrne. “We want people to know that we’re not some big, scary biker gang.”
