INGLESIDE, Ontario – The 11th annual Ingleside Firefighter Challenge was a tremendous success, with 38 competitors testing their abilities.
With 14 stations participating in the event, firefighters went head to head in challenges which simulated the first minutes of a fire. With demonstrations of forcible entry, hose pulls, victim drag, and ladder climbing, to name a few, event spokesperson, Jennifer MacIsaac says that the event brings out some serious competitors.
“While it is a fun competition, there are definitely some bragging rights at the end of the day,” said MacIsaac.
With sunshine smiling down on Ingleside all day, MacIsaac says that event organizers couldn’t have asked for more.
“We had a fabulous day, and we are very pleased with the turnout,” said MacIsaac. “But we’re mostly pleased with Mother Nature’s cooperation, given the summer we’ve had. There’s so much invested in organizing an outdoor event.”
Featuring free activities such as pony rides, face painting, a Children’s Firefighter Challenge, and a demonstration by Little Ray’s Reptiles, MacIsaac says cost was at the forefront of the committee’s mind.
“We wanted to make sure everything was as close to free as possible,” said MacIsaac.
Bringing down the house with live entertainment by Alex and Ethan MacIsaac, Quitter, Mena Hardy and Kilts, and Riffs and Spurs, the event was rocking into the wee hours.
“The best part is the coming together of our community – this is a joint partnership in so many aspects,” said MacIsaac. “It’s only possible with the help of our community.”
