CORNWALL, Ontario – For the second year, area Tim Hortons’ will be selling their Smile Cookies in support of Rachel’s Kids.

Last year, Tim Hortons’ raised $40, 000 for Rachel’s Kids, which kept all of that money in the community by helping local families.

From Sept. 11 to Sept. 17 Tim Hortons patrons can buy a Smile Cookie for a dollar, and that whole dollar will go to Rachel’s Kids.

This year, to kick off the event, a friendly competition was held at the Cornwall Square during lunch hour on Monday, Sept. 11.

Prominent local citizens were invited to compete to see who could decorate Smile Cookies the fastest and cleanest.

The Mayor, Dr. Rachel Navaneelan, Tony Lacroix of Love, Love Food and Rick Shaver of TC Media were some of the famous local faces invited to the competition.

Ultimately, it was Tony Lacroix of Love, Love Food who came out on top. Who knew that Café and Bistro owner would know a thing or two about decorating food. A close second was Dr. Rachel Navaneelan herself.

Throughout the week, members of the community will also be volunteering in the kitchens of Tim Hortons’, decorating Smile Cookies to make sure that there are plenty available to meet the demands of the charitable communities of Cornwall and SD&G.

This year has already gotten off to a great start as the Tim Hortons’ in Cornwall have already reported that they have brought in more money on the first day than in previous years, according to Rachel’s Kids Executive Director Kim Lauzon.

The Smile Cookie campaign is being run across Canada, with each Tim Hortons donating their proceeds to different local charities.

The local Tim Hortons Alexandria has chosen Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) as the recipient of the proceeds of its Smile Cookie campaign. For the week of September 11-17, this location will donate 100 percent of proceeds from the sales of its $1 Smile Cookies to HGMH. Last year the campaign raised $5,200 for the hospital, a 20 percent increase from the previous year.

“The Smile Cookie campaign has been successful year after year thanks to our loyal guests for their kindness and continued support,” says Paul Burke, Tim Hortons Restaurant Owner in Alexandria, Dunvegan, Hawkesbury, Grenville. “We are honored to support Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital with all of the proceeds raised and to share smiles with all of our dedicated guests. Stop by a restaurant this week and purchase your freshly baked Smile Cookie to support a great cause!”

“We’d like to thank our local Tim Hortons for choosing our hospital once more for this year’s Smile Cookie campaign,” says Linda Morrow, CEO of Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital. “This is a great representation of community supporting community, and we truly appreciate it.”
