CORNWALL, Ontario – Sydney Street has been reduced to one lane while City workers repair a broken water main.

The break occurred between the Eleventh and Thirteenth Street intersections of Sydney Street. Municipal Works was informed of the water main break over lunch hour on Monday, Dec. 19.

John St. Marseille, the City’s General Manager of Municipal Works and Infrastructure expects Sydney Street to be reduced to one-lane north of Eleventh Street through this evening and into tomorrow morning.

Marseille said that the cold weather would extend the time of repair of this break which he said was likely caused by the frost and cold breaking seals in the water pipes and making the pipes themselves brittle.

Seven homes in the area of the break have been affected and are without water.
