CORNWALL, Ontario – Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Cornwall and SD&G on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Environment Canada expects rain to cover the region east to west tonight and to continue into Wednesday morning.

"General rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 millimetres are likely, though isolated spots may see higher amounts, especially in areas that receive thunderstorms," the statement reads. "Caution is advised near creeks. Ponding of water may occur in some areas as well."

Environment Canada warns that because of the recent snowmelt, the ground has a reduced ability to absorb water.
